Easter 2004 coincided in the Orthodox and Western Christian traditions, and since I was happily in Australia at the time, I was fortunate enough to attend my third Easter Sunday at the Timms household.
LambMandatory at these gatherings is a lamb, weighing about 15 kg. There are about this number of guests (anywhere from 14-25), so that's a lot of meat. The lamb is spit-roasted on a machine-turned, charcoal-fuelled contraption for a number of hours.
Fixin'sAlong with the lamb came the side-dishes- a whole table of them. As well as the dishes shown below, there were beetroot and carrot jellies.
The meal finished with coffees and dessert. There were red-dyed eggs to be cracked and eaten with a sweet and salty bread. Also galatoboureko and baklava, from the Russian tradition were pasha and kulich. Peoplehome back last updated 3 Jun 2004 |
